Report

A random telephone survey of 1021 adults (aged 18 and older) was conducted by OpinionResearch Corporation on behalf of Completetax, an online tax preparation and e-filingservice. The survey results showed that 684 of those surveyed planned to file their taxeselectronically (CompleteTax Tax Prep Survey 2010 ).a. Develop a descriptive statistic that can be used to estimate the percentage of alltaxpayers who file electronically.b. The survey reported that the most frequently used method for preparing the tax retumis to hire an accountant or professional tax preparer. If 60$\%$ of the people surveyed hadtheir tax return prepared this way, how many people used an accountant or professionaltax preparer?c. Other methods that the person filing the retum often used include manual preparation, use of an online tax service, and use of a software tax program. Would the data for the method for preparing the tax return be considered categorical or quantitative?

a. 66.99$\%$b. 613c. Categorical

Hey, everyone, Today we're solving problem number 18 from chapter one of the textbook. Uh, this is dealing with descriptive statistics. Um, so in the first part, you are asked to develop a disruptive statistic that essentially talks about something about taxpayers. And you're given the total of 1000 and 24 adults as your sample size, and you're told that 684 manually file. I mean electronically filed their taxes and then the rest. So, um, I'm just going to make a little table for myself. So I know that I have Elektronik substrate e and I have manual, and then I have my total. Right. Um, again, that's for method of processing my taxes for filing. Then I have my totals. If they give, they get 6 84 they tell you that they tell you the total surveyed was 1021. So sample size just you all know for system example, size is usually labeled by miracle ever comes up on. We don't know what this is right here for how many, many files. Something else we do know is that the total for percentages which we're going to have to use in this problem. His asks us to develop a descriptive statistics to represent percentages. Know that total always has to be 100%. I'm making a mini table here. Guys there, there. Yeah, they're all right. So I know there's a total 1021 people surveyed in this particular survey, and I know 600 board electronically do it. So I just simply do 1021 minus 6 84 to find out how many manually file their taxes. And I get 337 percentages. They're going to be very easy to a boat right now, so I know that I have 684 electronically over a total of 1024. So what I'm going to do for percentages is always you always devised. You do 6 84 divided by 10 to 1, and I got a 0.6699 And multiply that by 100 to get my percentage. Remember, percentages out of 100 most bye bye 100. And I get 66.99%. That's why shouldn't be your final answer. Um, you can circle that for the time being. And then I know that I have a total one thought 100% again. This is rounded by the way 66.92 decimal places. So I do 100 total minus 66199 amount that electronically did it. The percentage electron. You did it. And when I do that, I get 33.1% of the people surveyed manually Aces. So, um developed were asked to develop a descriptive statistics. So you're dealing with categorical data because it's either they manually or electronically did it. So there's two different options given to them. There's no numerical values and represent how much your help, How many of something. So can it all be quantitative? It has to be cut. It works when you're doing power grows. They typically bar graphs or pie charts of the way to represent data. I'm gonna go ahead and make a bar graph. That was not good. All right. Oof! I am off today by drawing skills are that's better, Um, and again percentage is going to be online. Why access? Don't just write percent. He's sure to specify that percentage because percentages representative how much of something before something over the total. That's what it represents in statistics. And then all my lai access, I'm going to have a method. So how do you file your taxes? That was a big E I just wrote. Sorry, guys. All right. And then, um, I'm gonna make red represents electronic. Um, just it's easier to see, so All right, the gun e Elektronik. And then I know that for manual will make a different color hospital a camera doing percentages. I would go by tens zero. Hi. 20 off the 60 90. Let's go. 100 there. Not the best scaling. It will suffice. So again, this is 100 counting up by tens. So I know that Mikey percentages are between 16. 70. So let me just identify that area on my Y axis. It's is 90 70 60 somebody somewhere between here for Elektronik and then for manual. In between, I have 33 so that's between 30 and 40% of 0 10 2030 40 Yeah. All right. So Elektronik again, You're gonna grease it up. You draw far between 16. 70 a little bit closer to 70. Not too close there too much. I got to shake that in. I'm gonna write my value of 66.99 above it. Just so it's weird. And then I'm going to move on to manual so manually again. 33 points here once it's gonna be closer to 30% again, she that in and write the value of 33 points here, one on top of the bar. That is how you properly create a bargain, which is us developing the district justice. It so party took a little bit time solving. We got there and get all right. Moving on the party, they say, um, typically people surveyed in the survey how did have their tax returns prepared by either an accountant or a professional tax repair? That was 60% of the people surveyed. So they ask, How many people is that? So you're again. You're gonna be referring to your sample size number. Your sample size is 1000 and 21 adults age 18 or older. So you're going to write 60% off your sample size, which is gonna be 1000 and again to make a percentage a decimal. You're going to divide it by 100. So 60 derided by hundreds 600.6 off means multiplication work problems off times 1000 and 21. And when you do that, you get 612.6, which rounds up to 613 adults. In this survey, who would represent 60% of people at tax returns prepared by either accountant for a professional tax repaired. All right, Finally moving on to part C and the last part of this problem guys you are dealing with, they basically give five or six different methods just a few different methods off filing the return. So you can think of these different methods as options, right? Because they have different methods. They have different options of how you can file. So when you have different options and methods, those air gonna represent different categories. Um, and then this question you ask. So identify if there would be categorical on a data data. Clearly, it's gotta be category is a gun. When you have different methods, options listed out, Um, that's gotta always be That's always going to be out of work. In contrast, quantitative data out this doesn't thes methods. Don't tell us that all a numerical value that represents how much or how many of something so it can't on the reverse flip side, It can't beat on seated at all. So you know that this is categorical. There you have it. If you guys enjoy this video, please of the like right next to it. And thank you for watching.
