Question
A replication fork encountering a single-strand lesion may either dissociate or leave a single-strand gap. The latter process is more likely to occur during lagging strand synthesis than during leading strand synthesis. Explain.
Step 1
During DNA replication, the leading strand is synthesized continuously, while the lagging strand is synthesized in fragments, known as Okazaki fragments. Show more…

How does the synthesis of a daughter DNA strand growing toward a replication fork differ from the syn- thesis of a daughter DNA strand growing away from a replication fork?
During DNA replication, any of the following things happen EXCEPT the template strands separate so that both can be copied one template strand must be degraded to allow the other strand to be copied each of the template strands come back together with the newly synthesized strand after the passage of the replication fork each origin of replication gives rise to two replication forks one strand is synthesized continuously while the other is synthesized in consecutive sections
During replication of a DNA molecule, the leading strand is made toward the replication fork while the lagging strand is made in fragments in the opposite direction. What is the reason for this difference in the synthesis of the two strands? DNA polymerase is not efficient enough to make two good strands of DNA. The two template strands are antiparallel, and DNA polymerase only makes DNA in the 5' to 3' direction. The lagging strand is the result of DNA breakage due to UV light. The cell does not contain enough nucleotides to make two complete strands.
