Hello, welcome to the video, and today we're going to be talking about hypothesis tests, and specifically how to determine whether or not our evidence sufficiently supports our claim.

So in this problem, we're told that, or it is proposed that 20 % of students at a college attend a midnight screening of a movie.

So we can create a null hypothesis from this by saying that x, which is just what we're going to call the proportion of students who attended the screening, that x is equal to 0 .2, or in other words, 20%.

However, an instructor at this college believes that the true value of x is less than what is proposed.

So we can make this into an alternative hypothesis by saying that x is less than 0 .2.

So if we want to visualize this, let's say we have a distribution here, a poorly drawn distribution, with a peak value at the proposed value of 0 .2.

With this hypothesis test, we hope to find enough evidence to show that the true value of x is actually somewhere over here and not close to 0 .2, and let's show that this value is.
