(a) What is the density of a woman who floats in freshwater with 4.00$\%$ of her volume above the surface? This could be measured by placing her in a tank with marks on the side to measure how much water she displaces when floating and when held under water (briefly). (b) What percent of her volume is above the surface when she floats in seawater?

see solution.

So here we know that the fraction submerged due to our comedians principle is a big party. We're going to denote this as F, and this would be equaling the average density of the woman divided by the density of the fluid with which she is in. And so we know that 4% of the woman's volume is above water. So we can say that the fraction submerged F would be 0.96 where 4% of women's volume is above water or the water surface. And so we confined. But the density, the average density of the women, would be equaling 2.96 multiplied by the density of the fluid. In this case, it's simply water. So 1000 kilograms per cubic meter and this is equaling 960 kilograms per cubic meter. This would be the average density for the woman for part A. Now, for Part B, we want to find the, um, essentially the submerged. The percent submerge the fraction submerged in seawater. And so again, for part B, we have that the fraction submerged every other week and just say f in this case, fraction submerged would be the average density of the woman divided by the density of seawater. And so this is gonna equal 960 kilograms per cubic meter, divided by 1025 kilograms per cubic meter. The density of seawater is a bit more than the density of fresh water because it has salt dissolved in it. And this is equaling 0.9366 And so we can say that 6.34 leaves. The approximately 6.34% of the women's volume is above the surface of the sea. This would be your answer for part B. And does she float? Yes. So, yes, the woman floats. That is the end of the solution. Thank you for
