Hello guys.
00:01
Today we are going to be solving an absolute value equation.
00:05
And so the equation that we're given is 4 minus the absolute value of 3x plus 6 is equal to 1.
00:16
So before we start solving the absolute value function part of this, we want to isolate everything that we can on everything with x on the left hand side and only that and whatever else is inside the absolute value function.
00:33
So we'll notice that this 4 over here, this 4 is not within the absolute value function, and it's not an x.
00:40
So we're going to get rid of it by subtracting 4 from both sides.
00:44
So we have negative 3x plus 6 is equal to 1 minus 4, which is negative 3.
00:52
And then we can get rid of these negatives on both sides as well.
00:55
So we get absolute value of 3x plus 6 is equal to 3.
01:00
So now we can start doing the absolute value function part of it...
