Hello, everybody, welcome.
00:01
Today, we're going to be solving absolute value inequalities, and we're going to express your answer using interval notation.
00:09
And so the equation that we're given is 1 over the absolute value of x plus 7 is going to be equal, sorry, is going to be, is going to be greater than positive 2.
00:26
And so we're going to move the x plus 7 onto the right hand side.
00:30
We just want to get it out of the denominator.
00:32
And we're going to do this by multiplying both sides by absolute value of x plus 7 so we get 1 is greater than 2 times absolute value of x plus 7 and we want to isolate this so we're going to divide both sides by 2 so essentially we get 1 divided by 2 is greater than absolute value of x plus 7 and so let me just read write this on this page x plus 7 and so now that we have this set up quite nicely with the absolute value function isolated on its own side, it's time to get rid of that absolute value.
01:11
And so we can do this by rewriting this equation in its two different formats.
01:16
We have half is greater than x, sorry, x plus 7.
01:25
And then we also have a negative 1 half is greater than x plus 7.
01:29
So we have both of these cases...
