Evaporation is the process by which molecules at the surface of a liquid gain enough energy to enter the vapor phase. Vapor Pressure Lowering

Vapor pressure lowering is a colligative property observed when a nonvolatile solute is added to a solvent. The solute particles occupy space at the surface, reducing the number of solvent molecules available to evaporate, which in turn lowers the vapor pressure of the solvent. This means that the solution will evaporate more slowly compared to the pure solvent.

Nonvolatile Solute Effects

Nonvolatile solutes, such as glucose, do not readily vaporize along with the solvent. In a solution, the presence of a nonvolatile solute leads to slower evaporation because it does not contribute to the vapor phase.
