So what exactly is rational ignorance will Rational ignorance is essentially theory that says, when the cost of voting or the cost of becoming informed is too high, then people just won't vote. Okay, so what's a key part of this? A key part of this is obviously the cost of becoming informed. So what is the Internet done? The Internet has made information more accessible. So as that happens, the theory of rational ignorance tells us that since the cost of becoming informed has gone down, then people will be more likely to vote. Also, remember that another part of rational ignorance is not just the cost of voting and the cost of being informed. It also has to deal has to do with people thinking that their vote doesn't matter. In other words, they think that their vote will not be decisive. But one of the things that the Internet does is it provides you with information about whether or not your state is going to be very close in the election, and if that's the case, then that will increase people's desire to go out and vote even more.
