00:01 We are asked to sketch the region bounded by x equals negative y squared and the line y equals x plus 2 and we're trying to find the region's area we're going to set it up as a double integration and then evaluate so the first thing we need to do is find the intersection and there might be more than one we're going to sketch the graph we're going to decide our boundary type and that could be type 1 which we would say d y d x or type 2 which is d x d y so it's going to be one of these choices then we're going to set it up and then evaluate so this is our four step plan.

01:00 So step one is to find the intersection since everything tends to be in terms of y for this particular example i'm gonna leave x equals negative y squared alone but the second one i'm gonna solve for x by subtracting 2 over and when i do that that will end up being y minus 2 since i've solved for x for each of them.

01:29 I will set the equations equal to each other so then negative y squared will equal y minus 2 i want y squared to be positive so i'm going to move them to the other side and get y squared plus y minus 2 equals 0 then i'm going to factor and when i factor i'm gonna get y plus 2 and y minus 1 and when i solve i get negative 2 for y and positive 1 for y so when i create my ordered pairs when y is negative 2 i can use either one of my original lines when y equals negative 2 x is going to be negative 4 and when y is equal to 1 x is going to be negative 1 alright, so then when i do my sketch i notice i'm staying more in quadrants 3 & 4 so when i do my graph i'm gonna kind of stay over in quadrants, excuse me 2 & 3 i take that back 2 & 3 so we've got a negative 4 there's negative 4 and we're looking at negative 2 so that's the first point negative 4 to negative 2 and then we're looking at negative 1 to positive 1 and so that's where they're intersecting so when i look at x equals y minus 2 it is a straight line so i try to draw the straight line as best as i can and so that's going to be x equals y minus 2 alright, then when i graph x equals negative y squared this might be a little bit trickier because it's not a common graph that we tend to do so i'm gonna do a t -table...
