Holland's Theory

This theory posits that there is a strong link between an individual’s personality and the type of work environment in which they will thrive. The theory suggests that when a person’s interests and personality align with the characteristics of an occupation, they are more likely to experience job satisfaction and success. It lays the groundwork for understanding career choice as a function of the match between personal attributes and environmental demands.

RIASEC Model

Holland identified six broad personality types—Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional—each representing a different set of interests and skills. These categories provide a framework for classifying both personal interests and work environments, allowing for a systematic approach in assessing how well an individual might fit into a particular occupation.

Occupational Fit

Occupational fit, or person-environment fit, refers to the degree of alignment between an individual's personality and the work setting’s demands. According to Holland, when a person’s RIASEC profile matches well with their occupational environment, it leads to greater career satisfaction, better performance, and long-term stability in the workplace.
