Problem 89 Hard Difficulty

$\bullet$ $\bullet$ In creating his definition of horsepower, James Watt, the
inventor of the steam engine, calculated the power output of a
horse operating a mill to grind grain or cut wood. The horse
walked in a 24 -ft diameter circle, making, according to Watt,
144 trips around the circle in an hour. (a) Using the currently
accepted value of 746 watts for 1 horsepower, calculate the
force (in pounds) with which Mr. Watt's horse must have been
pulling. (See Appendix D for useful conversion factors.)
(b) Calculate the power output, in hp, of a 70 -kg human being
who climbs a 3.0 -m-high set of stairs in 5.0 seconds.

Answer

a) 184 $\mathrm{lb}$
b) 0.55 $\mathrm{hp}$

problem it, innit? This problem is about about the unit of power are spoiled one HB Is it going toe? 746 words. It is given that the horse off. Mr James Watt completed 1 44 Sir Gilles in one hour. That is hideous off the circle is well fit. Does we can write radius or circular? Well, Oh, three point 65 meters. Now we have to calculate the force with which horse is pulling the mill by the formula power. We know power is called to work done upon time taken. And can we do tennis? Total displacement in tow boards. Upon time. The total distance covered by the horse in 1 44 complete circles is one board floored in Toto. Bye in tow. Three Fine. Six three. This is the total distance into force by one hour or 3600 seconds. And this is equal to one horsepower or 746 words. When we solve this, we will get that's equals. Yeah. One three new guns, which is equal to 1 82 0.9. Phone pose? No. For the second part of the question, we have to calculate the power off a 70 kg human when he climbs by three meters in five seconds. The power he's given us total work and in climbing, which is equal to increase in his potential energy that this m g at bye be now plugging in the glove given values we can earn 70 in tow 9.8 which is the value of X elation Duty gravity Indo three Bye. Why thus we Gerda Why would off human as four 11 16 Works or Siegel wine? Why? Why stool horsepower?
