now in this problem, we were told the perimeter of the window of the camper shell is 140 inches. So we know that the distance around the outside of this rectangle is 100 for the inches. We want to find the length of one of the shorter sides of the window. Now they tell us that the longer side is 56 inches, but we don't know the length of the shorter one. So I'm gonna call that X. Well, how do we find the perimeter of a rectangle? Well, the formula is P equals two times the length plus two times toe with. So here's what we can dio we know the perimeter of our window is 100 for the interests, we can substitute one for the and for P. Now we know the length of our window is 56 inches, so I can substitute 56 Farrell and I don't know the whiff We're calling an X in this case. So I'll plus two Times X and now we simply need to solve this equation. Well, the first thing we need to dio is multiply 56 times too, which is 112. So we'll have 1 40 equals 1 12 plus two X. And now we have a two step equation. So first, I'm going to subtract 1 12 from both sides of the equation. Well, 140 minus 1 12 is 28 is equal to the one twelves will cancel out. So just two acts. So it's a solve for X. We're gonna divide both sides by two. And what we'll find is that X is equal to 14. So the length of the smaller sides are 14. The other thing we need to put in is our units. Well, in this case, we're talking about inches, so the shorter side will be 14 inches. Look.
