An enzyme has an active site where a substrate fits in to form an enzyme-substrate complex. This is represented by the equation:
\[ E + S \rightarrow ES \]
where \(E\) is the enzyme, \(S\) is the substrate, and \(ES\) is the enzyme-substrate complex.
