Can the speed of a given molecule in a gas double at constant temperature? Explain your answer.
Yes, at any given instant, there is range of values of molecular speeds in a sample of gas. Any single molecule can slow down or speed up slow down as it collides with other molecules. The average velocity of all the molecules is constant and will remain same for a particular temperature.

So in this podcast, we're gonna be talking about the kinetic molecular theory that explains the behavior of gas. So it has five postulates, and we're gonna be focusing on the fifth one in this podcast. So according to the fifth postulate after kinetic molecular theory, the average kinetic energy of gas molecule is a function of temperature. On this temperature isn't Calvin. So it means that the average kinetic energy of gas molecules is constant, a particular to up temperature. So any given instance, there is a range of values of molecular speeds in a sample of gas, and any single molecule can slow or speed can slow down or speed up or slow down as it collides with them all the molecules, for example. So the average velocity of all these molecules it will be, um, constant for a given temperature
