The membrane of the cell is a very important structure as it regulates, can move into the cell, as well as what can move out of the cell.
00:19
And the membrane of the cell is composed of lots and lots of molecules.
00:29
So as i begin drawing this, it will take me a moment because there are so many molecules that are in the cell, oftentimes you will see pictures of a cell membrane drawn this way and i like to describe these little molecules as looking like balloons with two strings and what i'm drawing here these are the phospholipids the membrane of a cell is composed of two layers of phospholipids and what's special about these is that phospholipids technically, they are a fat, however, they have a specialized structure.
01:32
They have two tails that are fatty acids.
01:38
And then at the top, they have a large group of atoms that contains a phosphorus.
01:50
So this makes them what we call phospholipids.
01:55
And they are arranged in this fashion where their tails are oriented towards each other in two layers...
