Genome

The genome represents the complete set of genetic instructions found in an organism. It is composed of DNA and encodes for all of the proteins and regulatory elements necessary for the organism's function and development. Its inherent informational content is relatively stable and serves as the blueprint for the organism, without accounting for the dynamic modifications that occur after transcription and translation.

Proteome

The proteome is the entire complement of proteins expressed by the genome in a particular cell or organism at a given time. Unlike the genome, it is highly dynamic and context-dependent, influenced by environmental conditions and cellular states. The proteome’s informational content is vast, as proteins undergo various processes including folding, modification, and interactions, making it a more complex reflection of an organism's functional state.

Glycome

The glycome encompasses the full array of glycans (sugar chains) present in a cell or organism, including those attached to proteins and lipids. It is less directly encoded in the genome compared to proteins, due to the complex enzymatic pathways and post-translational modifications that generate diverse glycan structures. This leads to an additional layer of biological information that affects cell signaling, recognition, and stability, rendering the glycome highly dynamic and complex.
