Today we're going to discuss intercellular signaling and the cellular responses that can come from them.

So there can be many different type of responses and that can vary widely depending on the type of cell and the type of signal they receive.

So generally we can kind of categorize these under two types.

One being the nuclear response and one being the cytoplasmic response.

And these describe where the response primarily occurs in.

So for a nuclear response, as illustrated on the left here, that is the primary pathway in which a lot of proteins are synthesized.

So an example would be the intracellular signaling of aldosterone, which is a hormone secreted by the adrenal gland.

And what happens there is that the aldosterone molecule is able to slip into the cell and go past that phospholipid bilayer, and it binds to a receptor in the cytoplasm, although some can also bind to receptors that are found in the nucleus already.

So once the signal binds to that receptor molecule, they form kind of a type of transcript.
