Hey everyone, today we're going through problem number six from chapter 15 of the textbook, which asks us to basically describe how the earning gap between blacks and whites has changed over time.
00:15
So i picked out some important sections from your reading in chapter 15, which describe basically disparity gaps in terms of wages paid between different genders and then between different races.
00:29
Obviously, between blacks and whites is referring to racial discrimination, potentially against african americans, and then also against latinx people and asian people.
00:42
So, basically, non -caucasian people, excuse me.
00:47
So here are some parts of our reading.
00:49
It says, according to the united states census, the gap between the earnings of blacks and whites diminished in the 1970s, so we know that much, but has not.
00:59
Changed in 50 years.
01:03
So that should be a pretty big sign, you know, in 2019, that the fact that the gap has not changed in 50 years means it's kind of stagnant, it's not moving, and it still remains.
01:16
So i would say that there is a gap, that would be the number one thing.
01:34
First identify that much.
01:40
And the gap deals with, in response to the question, we're going to say that there is a gap in race, something else that's important from what we just read is that this gap has not changed in 50 years.
02:12
Another word you can use is it's stagnant.
02:26
So again, that's from one page in your reading in chapter 15.
02:31
And then from our second page, we learn even more information about the gap in terms of earnings for blacks and whites.
02:46
So we know that much.
02:51
And then from our second part of the reading, we learn the earnings gap between black and white workers has not changed as much as the earnings gap between men and women.
03:04
So the gender gap has changed in the past half century.
03:07
The remaining racial gap seems to be related both to continuing differences in education levels.
03:11
So that's important.
03:13
And to the presence of discrimination.
03:15
So it just reiterates that it has not changed.
03:22
So we can write not as much progress as gender gap...
