Problem 102 Hard Difficulty

Describe the factors responsible for the deviation of the behavior of real gases from that of an ideal gas.

Answer

Ideal gas molecules do not have attractions between the molecules. The real gases show attractions between the molecules and hence showing a deviation from ideal gas behavior. Ideal behavior is only followed by real gas at high temperatures and low pressures. The high temperature will increase the probability of collisions among the molecules. This will, in turn, increase their kinetic energy. The relaxation time amolecules will decrease due to which the attractions among the molecules will decrease.

cast, we're going to start by taking a look at the Vander Waals equation that proves upon the ideal gas equation. So what we start with is P had a and squared over B be subtract and B is equal to an R T. So you can see that we've got the correction factors for pressure on folly. You can also consider earthy compatibility factor. Third is equal to the mullah volume gas at the same temperature and pressure invited by the mola volume off ideal gas. Same temperature on pressure. So what we will discuss here is that the ideal gas molecules do not have attractions between the molecules. However, riel gasses do interact with each other, so the ideal behavior is only followed by riel. Gas is at high temperatures and low pressures, so the high temperature increases the probability of collisions among the molecules on. In turn, this increases that kinetic energy, so the relax ation time among the molecules will decrease, due to which the attractions once the molecules, will decrease. Also,
