for this problem. We have been given a set T that is comprised of four distinct points and the question we're asking for this problem is, is t ah function well. To answer that, let's look at the definition of function. A function is a set of ordered pairs such that the first element in the ordered pair corresponds to exactly one second element in the ordered pair. In other words, for every input that first number in the pair there exists exactly one output For an example with numbers, let's say I have a 0.10 20. That means my inputs. 10. My output is 20. I could not also have the pair 10. 30. That wouldn't work because then 10 wouldn't be going exactly one place. Every input has to go to exactly one output. So let's take a look at the function they set t that we've been given. My inputs are too 35 and six. Each one is different in each one is going exactly one place. Every input is matched to exactly one output. So yes, this is indeed ah function. Now I do want to point something out here, and this does confuse people take a look at these Y values. Every Y value in this case is identical. Negative one and many people look at that and say, Well, doesn't that mean this isn't a function? No. And here's why our definition of function is a one way definition. Every input has exactly one output. We do not read it. An advert in reverse. We don't say that Every output can Onley come from one input. That is not the case. All we're looking at is from X to why does every input go to Onley? One place yes to Onley goes to negative one three only goes to negative one five only goes to negative one It's okay that they share the output. Every input is going toe on Lee one place and that's what matters. So this is indeed ah function
