Hi everyone.
00:02
So for this question, we are going to want to think about a signal transduction pathway.
00:08
And a signal transduction pathway is just another name for a cell signaling pathway.
00:14
So in order to figure out which step of signal transduction, a second messenger is released into the cytoplasm, let's think about the general steps of a signal transduction pathway.
00:26
So there are three or more basic steps to the pathway, depending on how much you choose to break it up.
00:33
But there are definitely at least three main umbrellas you need to understand.
00:36
There are three main steps.
00:38
So i kind of drew a little diagram over here so we can see and you can follow along.
00:44
So this is a cell.
00:45
So right here, this black line, that's our plasma membrane.
00:49
Then to the left, we have our extracellular matrix.
00:52
That's what ecm stands for.
00:53
Then on the inside of the cell we have our cytoplasm.
00:58
So let's start.
00:59
First, we have three main steps, as i said.
01:01
We have reception, transduction, and response.
01:05
So first, reception is one of our cell detects a signaling molecule that's outside of the cell.
01:13
So how is this done? a chemical signal, also known as a ligand.
01:19
Oops.
01:20
So this is my little ligand here.
01:22
It's a chemical signal that's outside of the cell.
01:25
The cell, it will bind to a receptor protein.
01:28
And my receptor protein right over here is this red little thing of a jig...
