Explain the difference between a rate of change that is positive and one that is negative. Give an example of each.
A positive rate of change means that the quantity you are measuring is increasing over time, and a negative rate of change means that it is decreasing over time. For example, if you are driving a car, as you speeding up, velocity of the car represents a positive rate of change, because it is increasing over time, on the other hand, if you are slowing down, the velocity of your cars represents a negative rate of change because it is decreasing over time (getting closer to zero).

Okay, So the difference between a positive read change and a negative rate of change if the situation involves a positive rate of change, that means it has a positive slope. So as we move from left to right, the graph is going up. So we're seeing the quantities increase. And if a quantity has a negative rated change, then we're seeing the graph go down, and so we're seeing the quantities decrease.
