This is a short answer asking why is the bad to release exotic pets into an ecosystem? so exotic here is referring to pets that are not from well here.

So it's a bad idea because a lot of times these exotic pets, if they're introduced, they can become invasive species.

Example of this is people have bought burmese pythons down in florida and they decided they no longer wanted to take care of the burmese python and they released in the everglades and as a result they are becoming quite invasive they're killing a lot of the wildlife they're killing alligators and it's just not good so first and foremost these other pets can become invasive species secondly, not all pets, we might think of exotic.

And so like cats, we probably don't think of those as exotic pets, but cats are not native to north america.

So if you were to let a cat become a stray, it does have big impacts on the ecosystems as well.
