Hello and welcome.
00:01
Today we're going for chapter 1, section 3, distances and midpoints, problem number 43.
00:06
So problem 43, we are told to find the missing endpoint of a line segment rt.
00:15
So to find this missing endpoint, we're first given one of the endpoints, and point t, which we know is located at minus 4 ,3.
00:25
And we're given the midpoint of a line segment rt called point s, which is located at minus 1, 5.
00:34
So to find r, which is the point we're looking for here, we are going to have to solve for our x values and our y values in our midpoint formula.
00:49
So we'll read out our midpoint formula here.
00:52
We've got our x1 plus x2 over 2.
00:57
Our y's, our y1 plus y2 over 2.
01:01
And we'll reserve x1 and y1 for point r so we'll be solving each of these equations we'll be solving each half of this equation for x1 and y1 so first we'll do x's so we don't know x1 plus x2 we know is minus 4 over 2 and we know that since s is the midpoint we know that this coordinate will have to equal minus 1 so now we can solve this equation for x1.
01:37
So we'll start by multiplying both sides by two...
