So to calculate the determinant for this matrix, we would have negative three times to minus negative one times four. You could use parentheses across every single piece. If that helps you process the information. But then you just simplify piece by piece. So we would have negative three times to to result in negative six minus on the right side, negative one times four to result in negative four.
