In mathematics, a function is a relation between a set of inputs and a set of permissible outputs with the property that each input is related to exactly one output. An example is the function that relates each real number x to its square x^2. The output of a function f corresponding to an input x is denoted by f(x).

for this problem. We've been asked to find the equation of a line with a given slope that passes through a given point. So for this problem, we're told that our slope is 14. And the point that we want to go through is negative. One 0.3. Okay, so how do we use this information to write the equation of a line? Well, one common way to write a line is our slope intercept form, which is why equals M X Plus B. This is not very helpful in this case because we're given a point, not the y intercept. So what form uses a point? And the slope Well, we're going to use. It's not very imaginatively named. It is called the point slope form. And that form looks like this. Why? Minus y one equals M times X minus X one. We call it the point slope form because it uses a point. Make sure you put the X s and Y coordinates in the right position, but it has a point, and it uses a slope. And just like with our other format, uh, M is usually usually represents the slope in this type of equation. Okay, so let's take our information and put it into this format I have why, minus why want the Y coordinate 0.3? And that equals R Slope, which is 14 times x minus the X coordinate. So it's X minus negative one, which is the same as X Plus one. And now let's put this into another form. In fact, let's put this into slope intercept form. Get rid of my parentheses. That gives me 14 X plus 14, and then I'll add 3/10 to both sides, given me 14.3. So here is the equation off my line, given the point and the slope that we have for this problem.
