Golf. The leaderboard below shows the top four finishers from the 2009 PGA Championship Golf Tournament. Scores for each round are compared to par, the standard number of strokes necessary to complete the course. A score of $-2,$ for example, indicates that the golfer used two strokes less than par to complete the course. A score of 5 indicates five strokes more than par. Determine the tournament total for each golfer.
Yang: $-8,$ Woods: $-5,$ Westwood: $-3,$ Mcllroy: -3

So I've got a scorecard for nine holes of golf. Each one indicated by whether or not it was a birdie par bogey or eagle, and we're told that evil is two strokes under parts. Who will represent that with a negative to birdie is one stroke under par. So that's negative. One car is zero and a bogey is one stroke over parcel. Represent that with a positive one. So going through in assigning these values to each hole, we confined the overall score by finding the sum of all of the strokes for each hole. So hold one is a birdie. There's a negative one hole to is a par that zero. Another birdie at three. Another part at four and Eagle at five will assign the negative two. And then 67 and eight were all bogeys, so they each get a plus one and finally another birdie at nine. So to find the total stroke for the entire game, we're going to add up all of the stroke values. So to start, I'm gonna find the sum of all the negative under part holes. Negative one plus negative one plus negative two plus negative one. Since they're all negative. We can just add their absolute values one plus one plus two plus one that gives us five and keep the negative. And then we can go on to adding, Our bogeys are positive. Positive one positive one positive one. This gives us three over total and then the pars. They don't add any value, but we can just hack it on. So we have negative five plus three plus zero, finding the sum of two numbers with opposite signs. We're going Teoh, find the difference between their absolute values and keep the sign of the larger number. So negative five is a larger number. Our result will be negative and then the difference between five and three is to So the total score for this nine whole game of golf for this particular player is two under par.
