Hi everyone.
00:01
Let's talk about problem 162 real quick.
00:03
I've come up with three ways that computers have increased the use of statistics for professionals.
00:08
And the first one is just larger data sets can be analyzed realistically.
00:15
So for example, you with just pen and paper could probably find the average age of people in your class pretty easily for me.
00:25
Right.
00:26
It may take you 10 or 15 minutes once you have all the data to do all the math.
00:30
Maybe.
00:32
But if i ask you for the average age of all the students at your school or college, you wouldn't be able to tell me that realistically.
00:40
It just wouldn't be worth your time.
00:42
Even if the information could be useful for something, it would not be worth your time to figure it out.
00:52
But with a computer, a computer could do that in a minute.
00:56
If you have all the data already acquired, you just plug it into excel and you get an average.
01:00
So it opens new avenues for researchers, like just new things that they can analyze.
01:09
And also just the larger your data set in general, the more accurate your predictions and results will be from statistical analysis.
01:18
So the second way kind of ties back to the first...
