Problem 7 Easy Difficulty

How Hot Does It Get? The highest temperatures on record for selected cities are collected by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and published in Comparative Climatic Data. The following table displays data for years through 2007.
$$\begin{array}{l|c|c}\hline \text { City } & \text { Rank } & \text { Highest temperature }\left(^{\circ} \mathbf{F}\right) \\\hline \text { Yuma, } \mathrm{AZ} & 1 & 124 \\\text { Phoenix, } \mathrm{AZ} & 2 & 122 \\\text { Redding, } \mathrm{CA} & 3 & 118 \\\text { Tucson, } \mathrm{AZ} & 4 & 117 \\\text { Las Vegas, } \mathrm{NV} & 5 & 117 \\\text { Wichita Falls, } \mathrm{TX} & 6 & 117 \\\text { Midland-Odessa, } \mathrm{TX} & 7 & 116 \\\text { Bakersfield, } \mathrm{CA} & 8 & 115 \\\text { Sacramento, } \mathrm{CA} & 9 & 115 \\\text { Stockton, } \mathrm{CA} & 10 & 115 \\\hline\end{array}$$
a. What type of data is presented in the second column of the table?
b. What type of data is provided in the third column of the table?
c. What type of data is provided by the information that Phoenix is in Arizona?

Answer

Alright now, Part A says what type of data is presented in the second column of the table. The second column is rank, right? So rank is a qualitative form of data and it is ordinary level of data to be specific. All right, so let's say that that this is qualitative, qualitative type of data or even in qualitative. You consider this ordinary level of data because there is a specific order. One is better than two is better than three. Right? So this is qualitative and ordinance Formal data now moving on to party. What type of data is provided by the third column of the table? Third Column is nothing but temperature. Now, over here, you have, uh, in the table. You can see that these are discrete values. These are whole numbers, but it is quite possible that temperature can be 22.8, right? It is possible. So this is nothing but a quantitative, continuous type of data, right? This is quantitative. Quant continuous. Wanted to do continues. I wanted to do data. Well, right. Moving on to the next one. What type of data is provided by the information that Phoenix is in Arizona. Well, this is qualitative, right? This is just telling you, telling us that Phoenix is a city that is in the state of Arizona. It just gives us the state in which the US it is located. So this is again qualitative. This is definitely not quantitative. So what is it? It is not numeric, so it is qualitative.
