Hello, welcome to the video, and today we're going to be talking about hypothesis tests, and specifically how to determine whether or not our evidence sufficiently supports our claim.

So in this problem, we're told that time magazine had previously reported that 25 -year -old mothers of three work an average of 80 hours per week, and it is suspected that over time this value has increased, that this value is no longer accurate.

So we can translate these statements into hypotheses here.

We can say that our null is time magazine's claim that the population average, the mean, or in other words, mu, is equal to 80, and that our alternative hypothesis is what is being suspected nowadays.

So to test these hypotheses we did a survey of 81 people, 81 women, and found a sample mean of 83 and a sample standard deviation of 10.
