So first of all, what is the purpose of membranes? the purpose of the membrane is to create a compartment so that a specific set of reactions can be carried out in that compartment.

So you have a membrane that right here, which is basically, the cell membrane and the point of the cell membrane is to define the cell and control what goes in and what comes out of the cell.
