Hello and welcome to this video where we're going to find the x and y intercepts of a quadratic function.

Our quadratic function here is y equals x squared plus 10x minus 11.

And so what we're going to do is break it down into two pieces.

We're going to do our x intercepts and our y intercepts.

So let's start off with our y intercept because it's the easier of the two.

This one is simply just going to be that number right there.

That's the hack for it.

You're always looking at that.

So it's going to be 0 comma 11 or 0 comma negative 11, and that is our y intercept.

Now let's talk about y.

Y intercept, your x coordinate is always zero.

And so what we're doing is we're putting zero into our function for x.

And so we're going to have 0 squared plus 10 times 0 minus 11.

Well, that's zero, that's zero.

They cancel out, and all you have is negative 11.

So that's why you can always just look for the number without the x, and that'll be your y intercept...
