So this problem has us analyzing someone who's gonna do a sweet dunk on a basketball. So for any of these can a Matic equation problems? We're going to start with the same five variables vv not 80 and X and we're looking at the same four equations that are listed to the right notice our kin O Matic equations. The guiding principle here is for any of these problems, you need to know three numbers in order to plug them in and solve for 1/4 unknown variable. That's gonna leave us with one variable we don't know and that will tell us which equation to work with. So in this problem, it tells us that a basketball player is starting from rest and speeding up to six meters per second. And it takes him 1.5 seconds to do this. And the problem wants to know how far he travels before dunking. Now, in this case, we know two numbers and we know what we're looking for. But we still need to know one other piece. So this problem used one of the common tricks with this type, which is to tell us the number in the words without actually just writing a number onto a page. So if you're clever, you caught it and saw that that initial velocity is going to be zero meters per second because it tells us that he starts from rest. And this is a very common trick that'll come over and over and over again. Whenever something starts from rest, its initial velocity is zero. So I now have three numbers. I know, I know. We're looking for acts. The equation or the number we don't know and we don't care about is his acceleration. So that tells us which equation we want to use because we're going to be picking the Kinnah Matic equation that does not have acceleration. You can cross out the 1st 1 cross out the 2nd 1 cross out the last one, and what we're left with is the equation we're gonna be using to solve this problem. That X is equal to 1/2 of the plus V not multiplied by time, so that gives us access is equal to 1/2 of six plus zero multiplied by the time of 1.5 seconds. When I plug this in them to get my final answer. We end up with an X value of 4.5 meters and that's all there is to this problem.
