Cell Membrane Structure

The cell membrane is composed of a phospholipid bilayer with embedded proteins, which creates a semi-permeable barrier. Passive Diffusion

It applies to the movement of small, nonpolar, or lipid-soluble molecules that can easily traverse the lipid bilayer.

Lipid Solubility

Lipid solubility is a key property that determines whether a substance can cross the cell membrane unaided. Molecules that are lipid-soluble are able to dissolve in the hydrophobic portion of the cell membrane, allowing them to pass through by simple diffusion.
