Autosomal Recessive Inheritance

This concept refers to a mode of genetic transmission where two copies of a recessive allele are required for an individual to express the trait or disorder. In autosomal recessive conditions, such as cystic fibrosis, an affected individual must inherit one recessive allele from each parent, and the parents themselves, while being phenotypically normal, often carry one recessive allele each.

Carrier State

Carriers are individuals who have one normal allele and one recessive allele for a given gene. Although carriers do not exhibit symptoms of a recessive disorder, they can pass the recessive allele to their offspring. When both parents are carriers, there is a risk that their children may inherit two copies of the recessive allele and thereby express the condition.
