00:01
Hey everyone.
00:02
Today we'll be walking through problem number 48, a three -part problem from chapter two of the essentials for modern business statistics textbook.
00:11
In part a, we're asked to construct a percent frequency distribution for the level of support variable, and then we're asked a side question about it.
00:19
In part b, you're asked to make the percent frequency distribution for the country variable, and then in part c, the last part, you're asked a question based off of the information you've just found.
00:29
So let's start off with part.
00:31
A.
00:32
We're just going to be filling out frequencies, so how many times it appears for strongly favor, favor more than oppose, oppose more than favor, and then strongly opposed.
00:44
We know that the total is going to have to be 5 ,372.
00:49
Let us know that.
00:50
And then for percent frequencies, we know our totals have to sum up to 100 percent, because 100 percent is the whole in terms of so frequency, if i count up strongly flavor, sorry, i keep on saying strongly flavor, it's strongly favor, 1617 people, strongly favor, then for favor more than oppose, 1871, or 1 ,871 people chose favor more than opposed.
01:28
For opposed more than favor, 1 ,135 people chose that option.
01:35
And last but not least, for strongly opposing, 749 chose it.
01:49
So when you compute each number individually, so 16, 17 over the total, and then multiply it by 100, so times 100.
02:01
So when you do that part -to -whole ratio, so you do each one divided by this total right here, and multiply it by 100.
02:08
You got your percent frequencies.
02:10
So for strongly favor, i got 30 .105 percent.
02:22
For favor more than opposed, you're going to get a bigger number slightly at 34 .8 to 87%.
02:40
For those who oppose more than favor, you're going to get 21 .1281%.
02:56
And last but not least, for those who strongly oppose, we're going to get 13 .947.
03:11
So now that you filled out your percent frequency, which is what they asked us to do in the first part of our day, you're asked a question, do you think the results show support for a higher tax on carbon on higher, sorry, do you think the results show support for a higher tax on higher carbon emission carbs? and the answer is going to be yes, because 30 plus 34 is the majority.
03:43
So majority support, or majority are in favor, somewhat, or completely.
03:50
Either they're strongly in favor of this tax or they are somewhat in favor.
03:54
So majority support.
04:00
So the answer to that question at the end part of part a is going to be yes.
04:06
All right, moving on to part b.
04:08
You are now asked to construct percent frequency distribution for the country variable.
04:14
So i've listed out the different countries given, and i'm going to be writing the frequencies and then the percent frequencies for these countries.
04:21
Again, the total is going to be the same, 5 ,372.
04:27
Actually, the totals for both are going to be the same because for percent frequency, the total always has to be 100%.
04:34
So for great britain, i have 187 participated in their, who answered essentially, that's an eight.
04:48
And then for italy, i have 1 ,045...
