Online Games. A new Playstation 3 costs $\$ 310.50$ and membership in an online videogame multiplayer network cost $\$ 18.49$ per month.a. Write a linear equation that gives the cost for someone to buy the machine and belong to the online network for $m$ months.b. Use your answer to part a to find the cost to buy the machine and belong to the network for 3 years.
a) y =18.49 $\cdot$ m+310.5 b) y =18.49 .36+310.5 y =665,64+310.5 y =976,14 $\$$

In this problem, the person purchases a PlayStation three, and so that's a one time cost, an initial cost of fixed costs. You can call it different things, but that's pretty much going to be your Why intercept in this kind of problem? And then they also purchased a gaming membership that they pay for by the month. So every month they pay $18.49. That's a rate, a monthly rate. And when you see the rate that will be your slope. So we're going to find an equation for this in the form Y equals MX plus B. And I've chosen to use C for cost. So that's my why. And then the slope we saw was 18 49. That's the monthly rate. You have to multiply that by the number of months. M is the number of months that's our X value this time, and then you also have to add on the initial cost of the PlayStation, and that gives you your equation. The second part of the problem is to figure out the total cost. If the person belongs to that membership plan for three years, so three years would be 36 months, so we'll go ahead and substitute 36 in for M and see what we get. C equals 18.49 times 36 plus 310 50 and that gives us $976 and 14 cents.
