Today we're going to talk about cross talk between different transduction pathways.

So in a lot of textbooks when you're first learning about signal transduction in a cell, you learn it in a pretty linear fashion.

So any one of these diagrams might look pretty familiar in which a signal molecule binds to a receptor embedded in the plasma membrane, which then triggers a cascade of events that eventually lead to a cellular response.

However, in real life, it's usually not so cut and dry and very clean like that.

So a cell will be bombarded with a bunch of different signals telling the cell a bunch of different things, and sometimes these signals can produce conflicting messages.

So it's kind of like if you were to get different information, advice from different people and it's sometimes referred to as cross talk.

And this is when multiple signals overlap or run into each other and produces a bit of a messier picture than maybe you're used to learning about in a single straightforward signal transduction pathway.

So there are some interesting interactions that can occur and consequences of these cross talk pathways.

So one way that they can affect each other is that one pathway can inhibit another pathway...
