Hi everybody.
00:02
So today we're going to be going through problem number 10 in chapter 16 treatment of psychological disorders and we're going to be talking about selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or ssri.
00:12
So i'm going to write that down here.
00:14
Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
00:25
So ssris essentially work exactly how they sound.
00:29
They prevent a process known as reuptake from occurring.
00:33
So they prevent re -uptake.
00:38
And when they prevent re -uptake, they prevent serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter, from being absorbed back into the cell.
00:47
So effectively, the neurotransmitter serotonin is going to stay in the synaptic cleft for a longer period of time and able to exert an action on the post -synaptic cell.
00:57
So i'm going to write that down here.
