Welcome back to numorod.

My name's kevin sharak.

So we're being asked for what a computer that's priced at $1 ,998 .95 might cost us after a sales tax rate of 7%.
00:15
And so you'll notice here that i took a moment and turned my percentage, my 7 % into its decimal form.
00:21
Just because we should know by now that we're more likely to use the decimal number in our approximations or our calculations.
00:28
So i've kind of just done a little bit of work on the front end.
00:31
In favor of efficiency.
00:33
Well, if we want to find out what the sales taxes, the sales tax is just simply going to be your initial cost times that tax rate.
00:41
So times the little p that i have written here.
00:43
So let's take a moment and let's write that out.
00:45
That'd be $1 ,998 and 95 cents times 0 .07.
00:54
Again, you could use the percentage here if you'd like, but for my calculator, it's easier if i just type it as a decimal.
01:01
So we got $1 ,998 .95 times .07.
01:07
And that gets me $139.
01:13
And then after the decimal place, it looks like we have 92 cents and then 65, 65, 10 ,000ths of a dollar.
01:21
That seems very odd...
