for this problem. We have an elephant seal diving under the water and it's diving to a depth of 750 meters. And as it's diving, it's also traveling due east, where I'll establish right now that east we'll be in the direction of our positive X axis. So it's diving east at a distance 460 meters from its starting point. So this vector right here usar displacement vector and were asked to find the magnitude of that displacement vector. So if we were to graft this and an X and Y coordinate system where why is tthe e distance from the surface of the water right, his arm negative by. And this is our positive X. So if we were to plot artist, listen, vector on this graph, we would start at 00 we'd go down to negative 7 50 and to the right for 60 and you'll get this factor. So if you want to solve for the magnitude of the specter, you can just use Pythagorean theorem where d is equal to the square root uh, Delta X squared plus Delta y squared where Delta X is your ex distance, which is for in just 60. And otherwise you're Y distance, which is 7 50 negative. So if you were to put that in, you would get the square root of 4 60 squared, plus negatives and 50 squared. If you plug that into your calculator, you should get 879.8 about meters. That's your final answer.
