Here everyone, today we're solving problem number two from chapter two of the textbook, which asks us to look at an examine figure 2 .4 from your reading, which is right here.
00:12
And based off of this figure, it gives us a scenario.
00:15
Suppose there is an improvement in medical technology that enables more healthcare to be provided with the same amount of resources.
00:22
How would this affect the production possibilities curve or ppc? and in particular, how would it affect the opportunity cost of education? so in figure 2 .4 we have healthcare versus education.
00:36
And basically when there is an improvement in medical technology, because of this, the vertical intercept of the production possibilities curve would be at a higher level of healthcare.
00:47
This would make the ppc steeper.
00:52
So it looks something more like this.
00:53
It would be at a higher level, be steeper.
00:58
And this would go up, whereas this would shift to the left.
01:03
So that's what would happen.
01:06
So the ppc altogether will increase, essentially.
01:11
That's how it affected.
01:13
But as a result of this, the opportunity cost of education will increase because now i have to give up, well, since there are more resources devoted to education, actually because resources devoted to education would now mean foregoing more health care.
01:33
Because since healthcare went up, i would have to forego more of this.
01:37
To get some of that.
01:40
So that means the opportunity cost will increase.
01:45
Yep, the opportunity cost of education will increase...
