The author of the book Into the Wild postulated that the main character in the book died in the Alaskan wilderness because he accidentally ate seeds containing a toxin called $\beta$ -ODAP (Figure $\mathrm{P} 20.31$ ). This substance is a neurotoxin; its mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it is referred to as a "glutamic acid mimic." Compare the structure of $\beta$ - ODAP to that of glutamic acid and describe the similarities between the two
molecules.
