Hello, welcome to the video, and today we're going to be talking about hypothesis tests, and specifically how to determine whether or not our evidence sufficiently supports our claim.

So in this problem, we're told that the mean age of students at a college in a previous term was 26 .6 years old.

We can translate this into a null hypothesis by saying that mu, or the population, mean age of the students, is equal to 26.

However, an instructor at the college believes this is not right and that the true value is actually older than that.

So we can translate that into an alternative hypothesis by saying that mu is in fact greater than what is proposed.
