all right. We want to find a range of values that corresponds to the absolute value of C plus 84 is less than or equal 2 56 and what this inequality represents is the range of temperatures in Celsius degrees on the surface of Mars. So to solve an absolute value, inequality, that's less than we have, a rule that states that if the absolute value of some quantity is less than or equal, I'll do it like this. If the absolute value of X, let's say, is less than or equal to some quantity a then we would rate this as negative. A is less than or equal to acts, and X is less or equal to a. That's the rule that we use. So over here we would say negative 50 sex is less than or equal to C plus 84 C plus 84 is less than or equal 2 56 So to solve for C, we simply need to subtract 84 from all parts here. So we're gonna get C is greater than or equal to negative 140 see is less than or equal to negative 28. Or, in other words, we have using interval notation the range from negative 1 40 too negative 28 notice we used brackets to represent the interval because the endpoints are included as part of that solution set.
