The Tire Rack, America's leading online distributor of tires and wheels, conducts extensivetesting to provide customers with products that are right for their vehicle, driving style, anddriving conditions. In addition, the Tire Rack maintains an independent consumer survey tohelp drivers help each other by sharing their long-term tire experiences. The following datashow survey ratings $(1$ to 10 scale with 10 the highest rating) for 18 maximum performancesummer tires (Tire Rack website, February $3,2009 )$ . The variable Steering rates the tire's steer-ing responsiveness, Tread Wear rates quickness of wear based on the driver's expectations, andBuy Again rates the driver's overall tire satisfaction and desire to purchase the same tire again.$\begin{array}{l}{\text { a. a) see tableb) Yes, because $R^{2}$ is close to 1c) see tabled) since the p-value of tread wear is less than $0.05,$ we can conclude that Tread Wear variable is significant.

Okay. This I will tires on tire imports a long time ago. The U. S s eligible terrorists entire imports in order to save some tire manufacturing jobs and increased wages. So these tariffs let to consumers paying an additional $1.1 billion due to the terrors is on top of what was already being spent on tires. However, there the benefit that were received by the workers in the tire manufacturing market added upto only 48 million in wages. Now it's in this odd. We consumers paid a lot more and workers did not receive that much. So the question is why. Then the government simply just raised taxes on US consumers and send it directly to those workers. It seems like it would be a more efficient use of the money. Well, yes, it would be cheaper for the federal government to have just raise taxes and U. S consumers and then just given that money straight to the tire workers did having to have imposed the tariff on the tires that were imported from China. But there are many reasons as to why this would not have worked first telling the American people were taxing you, and this one is gonna go towards Tyre employees. It's something that would have faced a lot of resistance. People don't tend to want their taxes to go to such causes. It is more much more acceptable to put tariffs on imports. And people tend to be okay with that, even though the overall conclusion is the one that we see here, they were wasting more money by putting the stairs than by simply sending the money directly to the costs that we were trying to change by imposing the tariff.
