Problem 42 Hard Difficulty

Use the periodic table to give the name and symbol for each of the following elements:

(a) the halogen in the same period as the alkali metal with 11 protons
(b) the alkaline earth metal in the same period with the neutral noble gas with 18 electrons
(c) the noble gas in the same row as an isotope with 30 neutrons and 25 protons
(d) the noble gas in the same period as gold

Answer

A. Sodium (Na) is an alkali metal having 11 protons. It belongs to period 3. Thus, the halogen in
the same period is chlorine and its symbol is $\mathrm{Cl}$ .
B. Argon (Ar) is the neutral noble gas having 18 electrons. It belongs to period $3 .$ Thus, the
alkaline earth metal in the same period is magnesium and its symbol is Mg.
C. Manganese $(\mathrm{Mn})$ is an element having isotope which has 25 protons and 30 neutrons. It
belongs to period 4. Thus, the noble gas in the same period is krypton and its symbol is $\mathrm{Kr}$ .
D. Gold belongs to period $6 .$ Thus, the noble gas in the same period is radon and its symbol is $\mathrm{Rn}$ .

in this question, we asked these appear a table to name uh, and give this simple for each of the following elements that are described sobre. It says it wants the name and simple of the halogen in the same period. The alkaline metal with 11 protons. So alkaline metal that tells us where in the first group, the left most column with appearing table lot of protons means we're looking for the element with an atomic number of 11. And if we checked the PR tables, that would be so d'oh or n A. And he's asking for the halogen. Uh, in the same period of sodium, sodium is in period three in the third row. So we go all the way to the right parent. Tickle the second column from the right. Those were the halogen sze, and in period three of the Paladins, we would find corn and Corinne as simple CEO parentheses. Okay, B says an alkaline earth metal in the same period as the noble gas of 18 electrons. So alkaline earth metals. That's the second column on the periodic table. And, uh, this is the same period as a neutral noble gas with a tail restaurants of its neutral. That means as the same number of protons and electrons. So 18 lecterns means 18 protons. The noble gas with 18 protons is are gone. What a R That isn't period three DS in the third row appearing table. Now we moved back to the left side of the column. It's less. I'd pair of table on the second column for the alkaline Earth Metals. He uncle an earth metal in the period. Three Is magnesium, magnesium, simple and okay. Great. See says the noble gas in the same row or group as an isotope with 30 neutrons and 25 protons. 25 protons means we need to look for the element with the atomic number 25. And that's Mangin. Ese bang. Guineas is a transition metal period. Four said the noble gases period for on the farthest right column apparent table with the noble gases period, for we would find clipped on that simple kor. Finally, for D, it says it wants the name of the noble gas in the same period as gold golden skin in the transition metals that's in period six. So we look and the farm this right, uh, column for the noble gases and period. Six. We would see read on which has symbol are dead
