If we think about the pros and cons of human intervention after natural disaster, after some kind of disturbance that changes in an environment, there's a lot of factors to think about.
00:13
So i made this t -chart with pros and cons so we can start thinking about some of these concepts.
00:20
The first one i thought of was the idea of succession, which is the idea of changing the composition of an environment over time.
00:30
And you can see this right after forest fire, something that happened like this in yellowstone, when the species change right after the disaster happens, and then they mature.
00:43
The forest matures and has different species come in, like larger and larger trees, etc.
00:48
So this is a pros and cons list of human intervention.
00:54
So if humans intervene, and i'm still thinking about succession here with our first kind of theme, then maybe it can speed up succession.
01:05
So i'm going to say fast succession.
01:09
Maybe the humans can plant trees faster than they would normally appear in normal succession patterns.
01:17
So i'm going to say fast succession.
01:19
But unfortunately, a con on the flip side of this could also be that maybe the planters of the trees get the succession wrong.
01:28
And maybe these trees that are meant to come in later should really come in later.
01:32
So i'm going to say improper succession because the species that come in at the times that they come in are selected for those specific times because they're suited for those conditions...
