What is heat of vaporization? Use a substance from the phase-change data table on page 507 as an example.
the heat required to change 1 gram of a substance from a liquid into a gas is called the heat of vaporization. From table we can see that heat of vaporization ofwater is 539 $\mathrm{cal} / \mathrm{g}$ . This means 539 $\mathrm{cal}$ of energy isrequired to change 1 $\mathrm{g}$ water from liquid to vapor.

question Number two in this section asks you to consider the heat of vaporization of a substance and explain what heat of vaporization is and use a specific a compound or element found in the table on page 57 for your explanation. So I'm going to first define heat of vaporization, and then I'll use the heat of vaporization of water as an example. Heat of vaporization is simply the amount of heat energy that is needed to convert. 1 g of a substance at its boiling point needs to be at its boiling point from a liquid into a gas. So, for example, water has a heat of vaporization of 500 and 39 calories per gram. This means if water is at its boiling point, I need to add an additional 539 calories per gram of water to convert that a gram of water from a liquid into a gas. But it has to be at its boiling point
