So what is a leading coefficient for polynomials? well, first let's go over what a coefficient is.

So a coefficient is a term, a number, that is being multiplied by a variable in the polynomial.

So for example, suppose you have an expression like 3x, the coefficient is this, because 3 is being multiplied by x.

And for example, let's suppose you had an expression of x, the coefficient is actually 1, even though you may not see it, it's actually there because 1 times x is equal to x.

Now a leading coefficient has to do with the fact that a polynomial expression has many terms, not just 3x, but it has let's say 5x squared plus 3x.
